Make these simple, warm goat cheese and honey bites for an appealing sweet and savory appetizer. This recipe uses puff pastry for a quick base.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 4 ounces soft goat cheese, chilled and cut into 12 small rounds
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon chopped walnuts
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Lightly flour a clean surface. Unfold the thawed puff pastry sheet. Cut the pastry into 12 equal squares.
  3. Place the pastry squares on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Place one round of goat cheese in the center of each pastry square.
  5. Fold the corners of the pastry up over the cheese, pinching the edges together lightly to seal, creating a small pouch or bundle. You can leave the top slightly open to expose some cheese if you prefer.
  6. Brush the tops of the pastry bundles lightly with the beaten egg wash.
  7. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
  8. Remove the bites from the oven. Immediately drizzle the honey over the warm cheese.
  9. Sprinkle the chopped walnuts and fresh thyme leaves over the honey-topped bites.
  10. Serve warm as a gourmet cheese hors d’oeuvre.

Notes

  • For a different flavor, substitute pecans for walnuts or add a tiny pinch of black pepper before baking.
  • If you do not have puff pastry, you can serve the baked goat cheese rounds on small crackers or baguette slices (crostini) after baking.
  • These bites are best served immediately while the cheese is soft and warm.
