Make the classic, creamy Green Bean Casserole using simple ingredients. This easy baked side dish is perfect for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or any family dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 (14.5 ounce) cans cut green beans, drained
  • 1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 1/3 cups crispy fried onions

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 1.5-quart casserole dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the drained green beans, cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, and black pepper. Mix until everything is well combined.
  3. Pour the green bean mixture into the prepared casserole dish and spread it evenly.
  4. Bake for 25 minutes.
  5. Remove the casserole from the oven. Sprinkle 1 cup of the crispy fried onions over the top.
  6. Return the casserole to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown.
  7. Remove from the oven and let it stand for 5 minutes before serving. Sprinkle the remaining crispy fried onions on top just before serving.

Notes

  • You can prepare this casserole up to one day ahead. Cover and refrigerate before baking. Add 5 to 10 minutes to the initial baking time if baking from cold.
  • For a Southern style variation, add 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese to the bean mixture before baking.
  • If you do not have fresh crispy fried onions, you can substitute with 1/2 cup crushed butter crackers mixed with 2 tablespoons melted butter for the topping.
