Make a sweet and tart strawberry mezcal margarita that offers a smoky twist on the classic cocktail, perfect for a special toast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 oz Mezcal
  • 1 oz Fresh lime juice
  • 0.75 oz Strawberry simple syrup
  • 0.5 oz Cointreau or triple sec
  • 23 Fresh strawberries, muddled
  • Salt or Tajin for rim (optional)
  • Lime wedge for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare your glass rim by running a lime wedge around the edge and dipping it into salt or Tajin.
  2. In a cocktail shaker, gently muddle the fresh strawberries to release their juice.
  3. Add the mezcal, fresh lime juice, strawberry simple syrup, and Cointreau to the shaker.
  4. Fill the shaker with ice.
  5. Seal the shaker and shake well until the outside is very cold, about 15 to 20 seconds.
  6. Double strain the mixture into your prepared glass filled with fresh ice.
  7. Garnish with a lime wedge or a fresh strawberry slice.

Notes

  • To make strawberry simple syrup, combine 1 cup water, 1 cup sugar, and 1 cup sliced strawberries in a saucepan. Heat until sugar dissolves, simmer for 10 minutes, then strain and cool.
  • If you prefer a less smoky flavor, substitute half the mezcal with blanco tequila.
  • For a spicier kick, add one thin slice of jalapeño to the shaker when muddling the strawberries.
