Make fresh, creamy, and tangy tartar sauce in minutes. This recipe is simpler and tastes better than store-bought versions, perfect for fried fish or as a dipping sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sweet pickle relish (or finely chopped dill pickles)
  • 2 tablespoons capers, drained and chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Combine the mayonnaise, sweet pickle relish, chopped capers, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, and white vinegar in a small bowl.
  2. Stir all ingredients together until they are fully mixed and the sauce is uniform.
  3. Add the black pepper and mix again.
  4. Taste the sauce. If you want more tang, add a few more drops of lemon juice or vinegar.
  5. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving. This allows the flavors to blend.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, substitute 1/4 cup of the mayonnaise with sour cream or plain Greek yogurt.
  • If you prefer a smoother sauce, pulse the ingredients briefly in a food processor instead of chopping the pickles and capers by hand.
  • This sauce pairs well with fried fish, crab cakes, shrimp, or even french fries.
